No crucible has challenged procurement as much a COVID. For me it was the first time in my 20+ years that risk mitigation, not savings, was my #1 goal. Sure we had always talked about risk mitigation as one of procurement’s responsibility but performance was always measured on savings. COVID changed that, savings had to be a by-product, and not the objective. This redirection depended on accountable leadership and robust processes focused on protecting revenue.
