Episode 6: “Intellectual Curiosity in Business”

From childhood we encourage curiosity while tempering it with warnings of dead cats and I believe that most successful professionals maintain a degree of curiosity. These individuals by their nature wonder if there may be a better way or if they can apply learnings from one disciple to another. For me, as an engineer, I have learned to apply the disciplined, data driven approach of that field to sourcing and many other business decision activities, especially when there is incomplete data, or uncertainty in the outcomes. Even within the procurement discipline I have found processes that one category used and applied them to others to great benefit because I was curious enough to wonder and brave enough to try. Today I will share some of my successful ventures and perhaps another time I can share what I have learned from my failures.
